We’re SHAKIN things up with this one. This year we will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the “Sudden Unexplained Death in Children (SUCD) Foundation”. Without going into detail, this foundation has a personal place in our heart. Please check out SUDC.org if you want to learn more about this foundation.
SCHEDULE (see tentative start times below in the Additional Information section):
Friday – Mixed Doubles
Saturday – Women’s Singles & Men’s Doubles
Sunday – Men’s Singles & Women’s Doubles
FORMAT:
• DOUBLES events (3.0, 3.5, 40, 4.5) will play a round robin pool format (note: All pools will include AT LEAST 5 teams. There will not be any 4 team pools, unless only 4 teams registered for a event and we can’t reasonably combine them). Brackets with 10 or more teams will be split into 2 pools of at least 5 teams in each pool. Brackets with 9 or less teams will play a 1 pool round robin (games to 15 win by 2). Meaning, if your event has 9 teams in it, you will play 8 games (1 game to 15) at minimum. After the pool play, half of the teams will move on to a SINGLE ELIMINATION bracket that will lead them into the medal matches. All medal matches including Bronze medal matches, are 2 games out of 3 (games to 11 points).
• All Singles events (no matter the skill level) will be double elimination with no come around. Meaning, if you end up in the opportunity (loser’s) bracket, the best you can achieve is Bronze. There is no come back around for someone in the secondary bracket to play for Gold/Silver. All winners bracket and medal matches are 2 games out of 3 (games to 11), including the Bronze medal match. Opportunity (loser’s) bracket matches are 1 game to 15.
If an event doesn’t have at least 5 teams in the bracket and we are not able to reasonably combine
the bracket with another, we will use a Round Robin format that leads into medal matches. The
Round Robin will be 1 game to 15, then the top 2 teams will go on to play for Gold/Silver and the
bottom 2 teams will go on to play for Bronze.
• All $$OPEN DIVISION$$ events will be Double Elimination.
If any exceptions to the above formats must be changed, as usual, they will be communicated via email prior to the start of the event.
COST*:
• Early Bird (June 1st – June 30th) = $40 + event cost
• Regular Registration (July 1st – September 21st ) = $55 + event cost
• Late Registration (September 22nd – 25th) = $70 + event cost
• Each Skill Level Event (3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5)= $20
• OPEN Division Events =$55 for Doubles & $50 for Singles
*Senior Discounts ($10) will be issued to those who register for 60+ events. If the 60+ age group has to get combined with the 50+ age group after registration closes, you WILL NOT have to pay anything additional; your discount will still apply. If a division does not have a 60+ event option, the 50+ event option will include the Senior Discount.
LOCATION:
This tournament will be held in the state-of-the-art University of Mary Washington tennis facility (University Tennis Center, 1200 Hanover St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401).
There is plenty of space for play, spacious hallways and an upper deck area for the best views overlooking all the courts. Chairs ARE NOT permitted on the courts. There are benches alongside the courts for players/limited spectators/coaches. There will be 12 courts with a combination of temporary durable “pro-grade” nets and temporary portable nets.
BALL:
• Our OFFICIAL BALL SPONSOR for this event is JOOLA! We will be using the Yellow JOOLA Heleus outdoor ball for skill level divisions 4.0, 4.5 and $OPEN$. The JOOLA Heleus ball plays faster than the Franklin X-40, but slight slower and easier to control (according to most) than the Dura Fast 40.
• For skill level divisions 3.0 and 3.5, we will use the Lime Green Franklin X-40.
(per the updated 2024 USA Pickleball rules, please do not wear predominately lime green or yellow apparel)
TOURNAMENT SHIRTS
Available for purchase with registration and are $15 when purchased online. A limited quantity of unisex shirts will be available for purchase onsite as well (cash, Venmo, or credit card/QR code) and will be $20.

There will be NO PENALTY for those that want to withdraw from the event in response to that email that will be sent after registration closes. Anyone who does not respond within a 72 hours of that email will be automatically moved to the combine bracket and WILL NOT be issued a refund if later they decide they don’t want to be in the combined event.
Prize Money
Prize Money will be awarded to all OPEN division medalist.
Refund Policy
Refunds will not be issued after September 20th.
